Mr. Bruce E. Gordon
Research Student
Space Plasma Physics/Solar-Terrestrial Physics

I am currently a Ph. D. student in STTG/UNH. I have an M. S. in physics from UNH (1981) and a B. S. in physics from UMass Lowell (1979). I returned to UNH in January 1997 after about a 15 year absence in an attempt to finish the Ph. D. I was admitted to Ph. D. candidacy in October 1997 after having finished the remaining course work and passing the qualifying exams.

My thesis advisor is Martin A. Lee and I am working in the area of ion acceleration and quasilinear wave-ion interactions in the solar winds. Observations show a secondary peak in the phase-space distribution of protons propagating with a parallel velocity roughly equal to the Alfvén speed greater than the speed of the core distribution that comprises the solar winds. My thesis will be an attempt to theoretically describe this differential streaming og protons.

I also teach full time at the college level and am employed by NHCTC-Claremont New Hampshire. I am in my 12th year of teaching. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked for the US Army and SAIC on problems related to radar propagation in the atmosphere, free electron lasers, and nuclear weapon effects.

I am 41 years old. I have been married for over 17 years and have two children. I enjoy woodworking, fishing, hiking, weightlifting, running, cycling, and SCUBA diving.
